Media Committee

The stories we tell are central to our work at SMWC. Our allies at the Vermont Workers’ Center developed the The People’s Recipe for building strong and successful grassroots movements and winning the battle of the story by producing our own media. This means that building a movement is about changing how we talk about an issue, and whose voices are centered.

Ordinary people do not control mass media outlets, and large media conglomerates are rarely interested in broadcasting the stories of people’s movements to claim our human rights in the face of elite power holders. That’s why it is up to us to gather our own stories and share them as widely as possible, reclaiming whatever public forums are available to us and creating new avenues for communicating with our neighbors, politicians, and community leaders. Through letters to the editor, press releases, podcasts, blog posts, videos, and reports–we must amplify the voices of working and poor Mainers across the state demanding that our human rights are met.

If you’d like to come to a meeting you can either fill out this form or send an email to info@maineworkers.org – we’d love to have you!
