Free Screening Clinic and Town Hall Meeting

On October 14th, please join the Southern Maine Workers Center and the Maine State Nurses Association on the Portland stop of the Healthcare is a Human Right Tour. The program consists of two parts: a free health screening clinic and a town hall meeting. The purpose of the event is to broaden and deepen support for our Maine Heathcare  is a Human Right Campaign. By providing free access to basic screenings, we are modeling a human rights approach to healthcare, and spreading awareness about the need for a healthcare system based on rights, not on profits.

October 14, at 3:00 PM.

First Parish Church

425 Congress Street | Portland

Free Health Clinic Screening

RNs will be available for basic screenings, including blood pressure and blood sugar. There will also be information on healthcare resources and our campaign. The healthcare screening will be immediately followed by a town hall meeting from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.

We also want to hear your healthcare stories. Volunteers from the Southern Maine Workers Center will be collecting surveys at the event. We are using these surveys to paint a picture of the current healthcare crisis in Maine— whether it is simply the worry caused by not having insurance, or other stories of healthcare denials, medical bankruptcies and financial hardship. Our stories help us make the case that healthcare is a Human Right, and they help us see our individual experiences as part of a larger story of profitized healthcare.
