Take Action

Southern Maine Workers’ Center believes that working and poor people must organize together in order to transform our workplaces and communities. If we want to improve our conditions at work, win victories to improve our economic conditions, or transform our health care system we have to organize as many people as possible to take action. When we act collectively we have more power to improve conditions for everyone. All of our campaigns and programs are primarily run by our members and volunteers who work together to reach new people, organize events, create media, and more.

We invite you to get involved by…

Becoming a Member

SMWC is a member-led organization. This means that with the support of our staff,  our work is carried out by our membership. SMWC members are the organizers and leaders who make the work happen in our Work With Dignity, Healthcare is a Human Right, and Political Education committees. They makes decisions about our organizational direction, goals, and priorities, and elect our leadership. By becoming a member and paying annual dues, you also help ensure that SMWC is a grassroots-funded organization. When we fund our own work, we are accountable to each other and to our core human rights principles.

Volunteering

We can’t do this work without the volunteer labor of our members and supporters. Volunteering is a great way to support our work, learn new skills, and ensure the success of our campaigns. If you want to volunteer, please contact us and let us know if you have particular skill or interests.
